Wisconsin FoodShare Leaves Many Out

Listen Later

WORT 89.9FM Madison · Wisconsin SNAP Leaves Many Out
First created in 1939 by the Roosevelt Administration as a way of simultaneously keeping people from starving and coping with food surpluses during the Great Depression, the U.S. Food Stamp program has gone through a long evolution and many changes. Now called the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program by the federal government and FoodShare in Wisconsin, the system still fails many in need. The Wisconsin Center for Investigative Journalism takes a hard look at Wisconsin’s FoodShare program in their new “Beyond Hunger” series.  Wisconsin Watch Managing Editor Dee Hall and Editor Erin Gretzinger joined Monday Buzz host Brian Standing on August 1, 2022.
