Good morning! I'm Aaron Jolly. And welcome to the Wisconsin Weather Podcast — it's Sunday, February 22nd.
Winter's throwing one last tantrum before we turn a corner. Snow showers are already flying this morning. And winds are cranking up like someone left the freezer door wide open.
Southeast Wisconsin, you're in the thick of it right now. Snow showers stick around until 7 P.M., with the heaviest punch landing around 5 A.M. You'll hit 27 degrees by 1 P.M., but those 30 mile an hour gusts? They'll make it feel like 12 degrees by early Monday. Dress warmly if you're heading out — this isn't the day to test your winter coat. Tonight, scattered flurries fade and lows drop to 17.
South Central Wisconsin, your snow window's shorter — wrapping up by 11 A.M. Highs only reach 23 degrees. And northwest winds at 20 miles an hour will push wind chills to minus 12 degrees by early Monday. That's the kind of cold where breathing hurts. Skies clear a bit tonight, but lows still crash to 13.
Northeast Wisconsin, you've got the longest snow event — 5 A.M. To 6 P.M. Northwest winds at 13 miles an hour keep flakes flying, but accumulations stay light. Highs hit 27 before dropping to 14 overnight. Monday brings sunshine, but don't be fooled — it's still cold.
Monday stays chilly with highs in the mid-20s statewide. Tuesday brings more snow, especially north of Highway 29 where 2 to 4 inches could pile up. Wednesday night into Thursday? More snow chances. But Friday? Highs soar into the upper 40s — nearly 20 degrees above normal. Because winter returns next weekend.
