Today, we pause to celebrate a truly sacred calling—motherhood. On this Mother’s Day, we honor the women whose love, labor, and faith shape not only homes, but hearts and futures.
I remember your genuine faith, for you share the faith that first filled your grandmother Lois and your mother, Eunice. And I know that same faith continues strong in you.
Who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubies. 11 The heart of her husband safely trusts her; So he will have no lack of gain.
She opens her mouth with wisdom, And on her tongue is the law of kindness. 27 She watches over the ways of her household, And does not eat the bread of idleness. 28 Her children rise up and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praises her: 29 “Many daughters have done well, But you excel them all.” 30 Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, But a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised. 31 Give her of the fruit of her hands, And let her own works praise her in the gates.
1. SHE OPENS HER MOUTH WITH WISDOM
– She speaks life.
– She gives counsel.
– She teaches truth.
– Her words correct without wounding.
– Encourage without enabling.
2. SHE WATCHES OVER HER HOUSEHOLD
She does not “eat the bread of idleness,” not because she never rests, but because she knows her work has eternal value. Even the smallest acts, done in love, become sacred when done unto the Lord.“The hand that rocks the cradle usually is attached to someone who isn’t getting enough sleep.”
3. HER CHILDREN RISE AND CALL HER BLESSED
Verse 29 says, “Many daughters have done well, but you excel them all.” This is not competition—it’s recognition. Godly honor is not demanded, it is earned through a life that reflects the character of Christ.
4. A WOMAN WHO FEARS THE LORD
Finally, verse 30 brings it all home: “Charm is deceitful, and beauty is passing, but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised.”
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. The world honors beauty, performance, and success. But the Lord honors faith, reverence, and righteousness.
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
