In a surprising turn of events, Julien opened up our new series with Lectio365. During the Season of Lent we'll be joining with other 24-7 Prayer churches worldwide to explore scripture and the witness of the Desert Fathers and Mothers. They were a radical counter-cultural movement that chose to live, work and pray away from civilised society, in the foreboding desert landscape during the third and fourth centuries AD. Far from being irrelevant to our situation today, the Desert Fathers and Mothers understood persecution, craved solitude and silence is a busy, noisy culture, and deeply desired the church to return to the teaching and lifestyle of Jesus and his disciples. For us, the next forty days of Lent are a time to enter the wilderness with Christ, to push into prayer and deepen our spiritual formation. What better companions could there be for such a journey than these ancient, desert-dwelling, prayer warriors, whose witness echoes down the ages, and whose wisdom remains so relevant to our lives today? Series Discussion Notes: The 24/7 Network has provided a summary of the sermon and discussion questions for missional families or your own study.
