'If you practice gratitude a little, your life will change a little. If you practice gratitude a lot every day, your life will change dramatically and in ways that you can hardly imagine.' - Rhonda Byrne.
Hello and welcome to Day 24 of our wisdom series. I hope you had an amazing weekend and you feel well-rested. Today we talk about the practicing gratitude and this is important and highly beneficial. When I arrived in Canada, I initially wanted to continue doing accounting. Since I did not qualify for a scholarship and I also needed to support my family back home, I was in a dilemma. A friend of mine then advised me to consider starting a career in nursing, after all, nurses make a lot of money. This meant that I could send money back home, support myself and still pursue my dreams. I was set on being in business, I just needed a stepping stone. I promised my friend that I will give him my first paycheck if he was right and a few years later, I was able to fulfill that promise.
I was very grateful to my friend and I am glad I was able to express my gratitude. We became great friends, not because of the money, but because he saw how grateful I was. That is when I learned the importance of practicing gratitude. It opened a lot of doors for me, I met new people, made great connections and this has helped me in my journey.
I remember a quote by Marcus Tullius Cicero which reads; 'Gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues but the parent of all others'. This quote has been proven to be true in my life. During the years I have also come to realize that whatever you appreciate and give thanks for will increase in your life. I implore you to start practicing gratitude, don't miss out on the benefits.
