Elena Rybakina, aged 23, and currently ranked 23, delivered when it mattered most at the final of a Grand Slam and quietly defeated the World No 5 and tour favorite Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur in three sets—3-6 6-2 6-2. Prior to making the Wimbledon final, the 6’ 0” Russian born athlete was a quarter finalist at Roland Garros in 2021. This year’s path to the final saw her drop just one set but when she beat Simone Halep in the semi’s she made it known that she was a worthy finalist. U.S. Defeats Canada to become the first host country to win he World Lacrosse Championship with a 11-8 victory in the gold medal match at Unitas Stadium, Towson, MD on July 9th. Since its first foreign tour in 1935, the U.S. women’s national team has been chasing the dual purpose of winning on the field and helping to grow this great game.
