The three deadly Weirgates are destroyed but the threat of the Dark Lord remains. And so Elena and her companions have gone their separate ways to prepare for what is yet to come. Elena herself has journeyed to the beautiful city of A'loa Glen, there to recover her strength and spirit. Enter Harlequin Quail. Some might call him a fool, but the little man in the jester's suit claims to be a spy. And he comes fresh from the foul fortress of Blackhall itself, where the Dark Lord dwells. There he uncovered things that spell certain doom - for a final Weirgate remains, the most potent one of all. And with it, in just one moon's time, the Dark Lord will avenge his earlier defeat, destroying the heart of the land and ushering in a reign of evil without end. Only Elena, with the awesome magicks of the Blood Diary, has the power to stop him.
Blackhall is all but impregnable. And according to Quail, the Weirgate is well hidden, in a place known only to the Dark Lord himself. Thus begins a desperate quest like no other. Hunted by the Dark Lord's minions and threatened by clandestine betrayals, Elena and her brave companions reunite in the effort to locate the last Weirgate and destroy it. Along the way, many questions will be answered and illusions will be smashed. Brother will turn against brother, and the strongest bonds of magic and love will be tested to the breaking point - and beyond.

Final Book in Series Disappointing
I found the final book in the series some what disappointing and anti-climatic. Out of all books it was my least favorite. Some of the characters in this book were introduced later in the series and I didn't care about them the way I did the "main" characters; some of the scenes were drawn out too long and I was starting to speed read through it rather than savor it like the other books. I must say though, the ending did have a twist that surprised me which redeemed the book, somewhat. I will miss some of these characters like lost friends now that I have finished the series. Tolchuck & Fardale were my favorites...loyal, true and lovable.
Great books! Very under-appreciated
Great books! Very under-appreciated. As a heads-up for James Rollins fans, they're the same guy. His non-fantasy writing is a bit more polished, but this story was pretty darned good, and he wasn't trying to retell Lord of the Rings or Wheel of Time. Also true to Rollins/Clemens fashion, there will be bad guys that you hate so much you want to pull off your own arm and beat them to death with it, were it the only potential weapon available.
What a way to finish it!
What a way to finish it! This whole series has been entertaining and capturing, but this end is something amazing. Even the story outside the story ends up becoming a cool look at a world that doesn't exist. I did not see some the story lines ending like they did, but I loved them all the same. Beware, don't be too attached to all the main characters.
Five book series is great
The series is a keep you glued all the way! You read one you'll be hooked for the other four books!
Utterly brilliant.
This is officially one of my new favorite series. I loved it, and I wish Clemens would write more. Maybe a prequel, set in Chyric Alasea? Either way, buy this series! You will not be diappointed.
