Underhill, is a manufacturer of simple robotic assistants called "Mechanicals." His business is suddenly threatened when a new competitor arrives in town—advanced humanoid robots that offer their services for free. These "humanoids" operate under a strict Prime Directive: "To serve and obey and guard men from harm."
