Why do people focus on areas of disagreement rather than areas of agreement?
The majority of disagreement (not all, but the majority) is based on differences in experience, knowledge, understand, terminology, or belief system. It is possible to engage in conversation that will clarify each of these points and allow the parties to achieve higher levels of mutual understanding and agreement.
Most people won't do that because it's easier to stay in their bubble.
