Act 2: You're On!

With Passion and a "Team Awesome", everyone can make a difference, with Alanna Mallon

Listen Later

With a Good idea, Commitment, and a “Team Awesome” you, too, can create the change our world needs.

Alanna Mallon serves as vice mayor in the City of Cambridge, Massachusetts. As a second-term Cambridge city councilor, she founded the Cambridge Weekend Backpack Program, and the K to 12 Strategic Lead at Food For Free, a Cambridge-based nonprofit that increases access to fresh healthy food to feed insecure residents in the greater Boston area. Alanna is dedicated to ending hunger and addressing the invisible needs in her community.

You will hear from Alanna:

  • How she learned about food insecurity and hunger in her community and the actions she took to create solutions.
  • You don’t have to decide to be a leader to create something in your community. Find the thing that you are passionate about and tackle it.
  • Not every piece of advice and feedback offered to you has to be accepted.   You can say thank you for your advice and move on.
  • Don’t be afraid to ask for help.  People will feel inspired and show up for one another.

" My job is actually all the invisible relational work to bring people together to put forward policy and make sure that you have that coalition of folks that are going to help you do it. It's painstaking, it's painful. And it's invisible. But it is what moves the needle forward. “Alanna Mallon"
