I have learned silence from the talkative

toleration from the intolerant

and kindness from the unkind

yet strange

I am ungrateful to these teachers

我从话多的人那里学会沉默

从偏执的人那里学会宽容

从刻薄的人那里学会仁慈

但也奇怪

我对这些老师并不感激

If it were not for our conception of 

weights and measures

we would stand in awe of the firefly

as we do before the sun

How mean am I

when life gives me gold

and I give you silver

and yet I deem~myself generous

我是何等卑鄙

当生活给了我金

我却给你银

还自以为很大方

I would be the least among men with dreams

and the desire to fulfill them

rather than the greatest

with no dreams and no desire

我宁做个最渺小的人

拥有这梦想和实现梦想的渴望

也不做那既无梦想

也无渴望的

最伟大的人

You cannot judge any man

beyond your knowledge of him

and how small is your knowledge

你判断一个人不可能超过你对他的了解

而你的了解又是多么肤浅

Wisdom ceases to be wisdom

when it becomes too proud to weep

too grave to laugh

and too self-full to seek other than itself

当智慧骄傲到不能哭泣

庄严到无法欢笑

自满到放弃交流

那就不是智慧了
