Austronesian Café
Austronesian Café is managed by Lily, who comes from Taromak village of Rukai tribe in Taitung. Serving food with macaranga leaves at the bottom of the plate, she tells different stories about Austronesian culture in Taiwan with the dishes she prepares.
Hunter's Smoked Meat/Smoked Chicken/Betel Leaf Spiced Sausage/Sticky Millet Dumpling/Pork Blood Sausage
The Rukai tribe completes their wedding ceremony through a pig-slaughtering feast. On the wedding day, which is also a significant event in the Taromak community, some people stuff blood sausages, while others roast meat. Nearby, a big pot of the main dish, Abai (millet dumplings), is cooked over an open fire. The Nandao Coffee Tribal Kitchen brings the tribal celebration to Taipei, sourcing ingredients from local farmers who practice sustainable agriculture. The filling of the Abai dumplings is also enhanced with various seasonings. Using banana leaves, large-leaf Nanmu leaves, and other materials for packaging creates a sense of unity among visitors after sharing a meal together.
"Reusing native plants, such as incorporating Formosan sweet leaves or their seeds into salt to create tribal-flavored salt, or using betel nut leaf sheaths to make plastic-free tableware, represents my vision for the future dining table."
