In this episode, Frances talks about how to love and support people who always seem to have a raincloud over their heads. If you’ve got a friend or relative who lives in constant complaint or self-pity, you’ll learn how to stay compassionate without getting pulled under yourself.
How to stay connected without drowning:
• Pause before you respond.
Take a breath. Remind yourself their emotions don’t have to become yours.
• Gently guide the conversation.
Ask, “What’s one thing going okay for you right now?”
Or “Tell me something that made you smile today.”
• Know it’s okay to pull back.
If they keep circling the drain, change the subject or wrap it up kindly.
Tiny breadcrumb for today:
Offer empathy—but guard your peace.
That’s how you keep loving them… and still have energy left to love yourself.
