Hi sisters and welcome back to the Sexyfit Podcast!
My #WCW feature today is an amazing, hard-working lady who has achieved astonishing results on her Sexyfit journey.
Shawna Salkil is working full time in a busy law firm, she is a mother of 2 children and the wife of a busy police officer. Shawna is a woman whom many of you busy sisters out there can relate to and here is her transformation story.
Why, how and when did you start your journey?
I was put on my first diet in the 2nd grade, when I was 8 years old. From then on, I always felt like I was a fat kid and the last one picked. In puberty I slimmed down, but after high school I started gaining weight again, and it’s been a story of gaining and losing since then.
Since I’ve become a mom, I would try really hard to lose weight for a week or two and then I would give up. I was never able to incorporate fitness into my life on a regular basis, I couldn’t instill that last fitness piece in. I thought I had to do something from infomercials, like jumping around the living room for one hour every day, being crazy and tired.
Actually I needed something I could do at home, without a lot of expensive equipment and that didn’t take hours and hours of time. So that’s where I am now, on the Sexyfit journey. I’ve lost 62 pounds and my son until now has never seen me this healthy and fit.
What is the surprising thing you learned about yourself? What is the surprising mental transformation you’ve had?
During this journey I really figured out how mental my weight loss issues were. It had so little to do with physical hunger. I learned that there was no superfast and easy way to do it. You have to do both the mental and physical work. You can’t just work out and eat well, you have to do the head and heart work too.
I went through a mental transformation from always being a pleaser to putting a line in the sand and dealing with toxic situations and people in my life. I no longer eat my feelings and allow them to have that much control over me, because they are not that important in my life. Being in the Sexyfit community and having other strong women to support me, I really feel I have finally put that line in the sand and made myself important.
If you were to go back, what would you tell to your old self?
I would go back and say that it’s okay to want to make people happy, but it’s also okay to want to make yourself happy. It’s not selfish, it’s not unfeminine, it’s not unchristian, because you’re going to be so much better down the road.
What would be your tip for someone who is considering starting this journey?
My tip would be not to get into that deprivation mindset because that sets you up for failure. Counting the macros has been very helpful for me, because I can fit a treat into my meals, and make it work and not feel deprived. And with fitness, do what you can until you can do more. Start with 3 pushups and then the next day try to do 4. Do whatever modification you have to do until you can do more.
We at Sexyfit LOVE working with Shawna, we love her results and her tremendous transformation. Actually, I’m watching all my Sexyfit sisters’ journeys like a hawk because I care so much. So beware ladies, Zlata is watching!
