她说，她爱挑战，她时常不属于"大多数"，而她选择在复杂世界中开辟一片属于自己的领地，深耕其中。
Gillian Zhang has spent the past 13 years in the United States. Her journey began as a master's exchange student at UC Berkeley, followed by doctoral studies under Dr. Julia Andrews, a pioneering scholar of modern and contemporary Chinese art history. She later worked as a research fellow in the curatorial department at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Today, she teaches East Asian Art History at Boston College.
Her path has been one of transformation. She arrived with what she describes as "broken English" and eventually entered academia as a university professor. She moved from an education that emphasized conformity and graciousness to a life dedicated to exploring her own identity, finding her voice, and establishing her scholarly authority.
When she first came to the United States, she had no intention of staying. But life unfolded differently. She met her husband, became a mother, and built a family.
In her academic career, she finds intellectual nourishment in the world of art history, immersing herself in questions that continue to challenge and inspire her. In her personal life, she has gradually developed a deeper sense of confidence, self-understanding, and inner peace.
She says she loves challenges. She is often not part of the majority. Instead, she seeks out a space of her own within a complex world—and dedicates herself to cultivating it.
