Women's Prayer/Worship Meetings: What Saith The Pilgrim's Progress Author? (Ep. 51)

Listen Later

The Gospel Coalition and numerous other ministries have a practice of hosting women's-only conferences, etc. This is often seen as completely right and proper by many Bible-believing Christians, but what do the Scriptures say on the matter?

Chris shares with you a lesser-known essay written by Puritan Baptist preacher John Bunyan, the author of The Pilgrim's Progress. In this work arguing against women's prayer meetings, he provides sound biblical reasoning for why God forbids the authoritative and public exercise of prayer by groups of women. His arguments provide us with important instruction regarding God's roles for women and men in the body of Christ and society. Rather than simply using the generally patriarchal structure of his day as the basis for his reasoning, he carefully explains the key Scriptural passages that teach the subordination and support of women, and the headship and authority of men over them. Prepare to have your opinion of Bunyan alterered, and to learn vital truths from God's Word!
