Wonder Drug, by Anthony L T Cragg
There’s magic in it, powers of healing not yet approved by the F.D.A.,
nor covered by your health plan. Floods of tears and wails of pain
are instantly hushed by it.
No pill, no cream, no bandage works faster
to restore a child
to health and happiness.
It is a kind of benediction,
the nearest thing to a blessing
that the laity are capable of,
bestowing with one small movement of the lips safety and solace. It equips
the recipient with all the protection
a parent can give
for college or parties or bicycle trips.
What is it? Of course,
it is a mother’s kiss.. This poem, ‘Wonder Drug’, read by Keiko Morita, is available with other episodes on #AnchorFM, #Spotify and other podcast platforms.
The 13th poem in a series of poetry readings by multiple voices of ‘From Spires To Peak’ by Anthony LT Cragg. The book is published by BookBaby2021 and available at Amazon.
