In a season filled with noise, hurry, and expectation, we pause to see and celebrate the COMFORT of His presence. Just as the angels proclaimed good news and the shepherds were drawn into worship, we come together to exalt Christ—the Light who breaks through darkness and brings peace to weary hearts.

Discussion Questions:

  1. In verses 1–2, what kinds of darkness does Isaiah describe, and what does it mean that a “great light” will shine on those living in that darkness? How does the text itself show the difference this light will make?
  2. In verses 3–5, Isaiah lists several results of God’s future work—joy, freedom, peace, victory. What stands out to you about these descriptions, and what do they teach us about the kind of salvation the coming Messiah would bring?
  3. One of the titles given is “Wonderful Counselor.” Looking at the flow of the passage, what does this tell us about the kind of wisdom, guidance, and leadership the Messiah brings? How does this contrast with the failed leadership Israel had experienced?
  4. Isaiah points forward to Jesus, our Wonderful Counselor—wise, faithful, powerful, and present with His people. How have you seen Jesus counsel or guide you, and where do you need His wisdom most right now?
