Today is Mother’s Day and I would like to recall some of the women in the New Testament who can help us remember those in our own lives that have made a big difference to us. In Luke 10:38-42, we find Jesus at the house of Lazarus’ sisters Mary and Martha. Mary chose to sit with Jesus and listen to Him while Martha busied herself with preparing a meal and feeling that Mary should have been helping her. Jesus reminded Martha that Mary was doing best thing. Do we get caught up with busy work as well? Or, are we taking time to pray, worship, and be with Jesus? Save time for the best thing. In Acts 9:36-42, when Peter was in Joppa, he found that a faithful woman named Tabitha had died and there was much weeping. Peter told her to arise and she did. God was not done with her and knew that there was more she could do for others. In Acts 16:11-15, we read about Lydia who was a business woman. When she heard the words of Paul the Lord opened her heart. She and her household were baptized and thus the church in Phillipi was established. In II Timothy 1:5, Paul writes that he remembers the faith of Timothy’s grandmother Lois and his mother Eunice. Paul can see the same faith in Timothy. In Luke 1:26-38, we can never forget the faith of Mary, mother of Jesus, and how she followed and trusted God from an early age and was chosen by God for a great purpose. Even the poor widow in Luke 21:1-4 that Jesus saw offering her small amount was praised by Him for her sacrifice. Who are the women in your life that have influenced you and been examples of their faith in Jesus Christ? Happy Mother’s Day and may God bless them all!
