This composition varies little depending on the species:
• carbon: 50%
• oxygen: 42%
• hydrogen: 6%
• nitrogen: 1%
• ash (minerals): 1%


ORGANIC COMPOSITION OF WOOD


This composition also varies little depending on the species:
• cellulose: 50%
• lignin: 20 to 30%
• hydrogen: 6%
• for the remainder: starch, sugar, tannins, essential oils, resins, gums and mineral salts
