The great Gered Mankowitz on 55 years of rock photography - includes the day Charles Laughton and Elsa 'Bride Of Frankenstein' Lanchester came for lunch, photo shoots for Hendrix, the Yardbirds, Ogden's Nutgone Flake (and Marriott's "disgusting flat"), the Sweet plus "grotesque mannequins", Dave SuperYob Hill of Slade, Marianne Faithfull in the Salisbury pub and "laying down the blueprint for the Stones" with Out Of Our Heads in the days before the rock stylists took over. 


Gered's TV series ICON: Music Through the Lens is on Sky Arts in late autumn.
