Who owns slang?

 Ruby and Vera  were popular singers. Their names survive in the slang of food and drink. But somewhere along the line both of their names were subject to entrepreneurial shenanigans. This story of curry, gin and celebrity among other things was prompted by the passing of Vera Lynn in June 2020.
