In general, Nolo press writes the best Pro-per books available for the layman. I've been using them for over thirty years, still do, and have a complete library of their publications. They've never let me down as to quality, completeness, and accuracy.

Fed/State/Local Gov't should mandate NOW!!!

With the existing infrastructure and availability of high speed Internet bandwidth, and widespread home computing, obviously the absolute simplest no-brainer solution to reducing/eliminating U.S. dependence on foreign oil is "TELECOMMUTING". Working from Home should be a Federal, State, and local government mandate! We have the technology. We have the means. The benefits to our society and even future way of life, are obvious. We absolutely need to become self-sufficient in meeting our own energy needs. Get millions of cars of the road every work day has only one obstacle . . . a paradyme shift in corporatations to make WFH a reality where ever and when ever possible. There is no real cost to corporations to implement WFH alternatives. However, some degree of accomodation may be required.

There are tens of millions of office cubicle worker (so-called "white" collar) employees that could and CAN do the same jobs and work, using home computers and ISP resources from small home offices. Corporations need only grant their "intranet" server access remotely. Sufficient safeguards for security provisions such as remote access password protection, VPNs, are already being used for a company's business travelers, and these employees typically use Microsoft Exchange webmail to access their company email system. The same can be done for employees who work from home.

My employer's policy is that only company owned (laptop) computers can be used to access the company's servers via VPN. Okay, then start issuing laptops to all employees authorized to work from home.
