Labor Day is the unofficial end of summer. Here at Wine, Dine, and Storytime we celebrate that with some tales of despair. We harken back to a time when workers were happy to earn a few cents and didn’t necessarily stare at the clock until their shift was over. And where did it get them? Dana tells us about the Triangle Shirtwaist Company fire in which so many young people lost their lives. Nydia tells us about the Radium Girls. These glowing young ladies gave the best years of their lives to employers who saw them as indispensable. Cindy shares first job experiences to lighten the mood.
For dinner this week, Cindy kindly cooked a chicken soup recipe from her own Puerto Rican heritage. For dessert, she treated us to chocolate orange brownies. The wine this week was Layer Cake Malbec. This was a delicious rich wine with full body flavor and under $15.
