Most Australian surgeons struggle with shoulder, neck and upper back pain, according to recent research conducted by Dr Katherine Grant and Dr Leong Tiong. Dr Grant is a surgical resident based at Royal Adelaide Hospital and is pursuing a career in general surgery. The research was based on a survey which also showed that female and younger surgeons are more likely to suffer from work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WRMD).
