Perth-based Plastic and Reconstructive Surgical Trainee, Dr Emily Ryan is conducting world-first research to understand the connection between Non-Severe Burn Injury (NSBI) and high rates of cardiovascular disease (CVD). She has had access to 30 years of records from Western Australian hospitals showing an increase in hospitalisation of NSBI patients for CVD. The research will help educate GPs and prompt careful longterm monitoring of cardiovascular health among NSBI sufferers.
