World-renowned environmentalist sacked by Cook Islands government

Jacqui Evans is a marine conservationist and over the past years she played a very critical role in establishing a marine protected area in the Cook Islands that’s called Marae Moana or Sacred Land. There have been a lot of criticism around the government’s decision to let Jacqui Evans go as the director of Marae Moana, with claims that the government’s economic interests are behind the move to let her go. PMN Cook Islands producer Tauraki Rongo had a chat to Jacqui this week.
