EMPIRE OF WEALTH James J Hill – The Great Northern Railway (1838-1916)The only transcontinental railroad built without any governmental assistance, the Great Northern Railway. James J Hill and his partners built a 1,700 mile railroad from St Paul, Minnesota to Seattle, Washington. This month’s report continues the historically weak trend of owner confidence which has led some observers to suggest that the Index should be renamed, Small Business Pessimism Index.
