The killing of a Kashmir-based rebel leader by Indian forces has fuelled the already strong anti-Indian sentiment prevalent in Muslim-majority Kashmir and has led to large protests. Kashmiri youths hurled rocks at Indian troops, who responded by using live ammunition, pellet guns and tear gas to control the crowd. The live ammunition has left 50 youths dead and many more blinded and injured.
