Worry: Releasing Control and Loving What Is

Episode 3. Worry: Releasing Control and Loving What Is

On today’s episode of Words Never Spoken, we discuss what it means to actually choose yourself first – so you can love your life right now, exactly as it is, and free those around you to do the same.

Have you ever thought, “What about me? When’s it going to be my turn?” as you worry constantly about your partner or your kids? But then you judge yourself for being selfish. You must be doing something wrong if you’re not happy with your life.

Our guest today, Jenny, shares a time in her life when she realized that, even though her life looked perfect on the outside, she was not happy. She had taken on the responsibility for the success of her family members so much that she didn’t know how to just love herself or them. The worry was so overwhelming she dreamt of getting in her car and driving away from it all. But she knew she couldn’t escape her own thoughts and feelings.

What if you could stop trying to fix and control everything in your life – and truly love it exactly as it is? What if you could truly love yourself exactly as you are?

Listen to Jenny’s story of hope, courage, and patience as she took her life back one moment at a time and found her way to loving her life, exactly the way it was.

Gold Nuggets:

  • Get support: Talk to someone who will listen to you without judgment.

  • Stop punishing yourself for everything outside of your control. Ask yourself, “What is my responsibility and what is not?” If you’re not sure, ask someone else.

  • Sit quietly with yourself and ask, “What would it be like to love my life just the way it is?”

  • Realize you are no good to anyone else if you don’t put on your oxygen mask first. Ask, “How can I best take care of myself in this moment?” Do things that make you feel good: take a walk in nature, listen to music, dance, gaze at a candle…

  • Learn to trust: first yourself and then also your loved ones to live their own lives.
