4 So all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah.5 They said to him, “You are old, and your sons do not follow your ways; now appoint a king to lead[b] us, such as all the other nations have.”   1 Samuel 8:4-5

Why for centuries, did God not give Israel as king?  There were numerous leaders, Abraham, Moses, Joseph, the Judges, innumerable prophets, but no king.

God our Father knows us better than we know ourselves. He knew that man would eventually begin worshiping a man or men instead of Him. They would look to man to solve their problems not the Lord their Father.

Consider today’s world. Do you first go to our heavenly Father or do men go to the government? Do men follow the will of God or do the bidding of worldly leaders.

Lord, I come before you seeking the strength and skill to overcome my enemies. Grant me I pray, the wisdom to recognize evil, the courage to confront it, and the strength to destroy it. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
