The hymn “Exalted” observes that the Christ was “Worshipped with Contempt.”  The gospels record the shameful way He was worshipped in mockery by the Roman soldiers and others.  But the sad truth is that God has often been worshipped with contempt throughout human history. He is still worshipped with contempt today by those who claim to love Him but give Him less than their best or offer Him service with unholy hearts and hands.
