In this lesson, I will introduce you three ways of making a request using the te-form of a verb.

They have different degrees of politeness, so you need to differentiate them depending on who you are talking to.


First one, the te-form of a verb plus いただけませんか. (polite expression)

Second one, the te-form of a verb plus くれませんか.(less polite, but still somewhat polite)

Third one, the te-form of a verb plus くれない?(casual expression)


<いただけませんか>

にほんご を おしえて いただけませんか。

Would you teach me Japanese?

*おしえて is the te-form of a verb, おしえる, which means "teach" or "tell".


とうきょうえき まで の みち を おしえて いただけませんか。

Would you tell me the way to the Tokyo station?


<くれませんか>

にほんご を おしえて くれませんか。

Will you teach me Japanese?


ペン を かして くれませんか。

Will you lend me your pen?

*かして is the te-form of a verb, かす, which means "lend".


<くれない?>

にほんご おしえて くれない。

Teach me Japanese, will you?


ペン かして くれない。

Lend me your pen, will you?


にほんご おしえて。

Teach me Japanese.


ペン かして。

Lend me your pen.
