What if being a man has always meant being told to figure it out, provide, protect, perform, and keep going—without ever admitting when you’re struggling?
In Session 4 of my marriage series, I’m talking about the pressure men can carry that often goes unseen.
For many men, the message has been: Don’t complain. Don’t cry. Don’t talk about your feelings. Just figure it out.
But what happens when a husband is struggling, failing, overwhelmed, or afraid—and doesn’t feel safe enough to say it?
And for wives, here’s an important question: Does your husband feel safe enough with you to tell you when he feels like he’s failing?
Marriage was never meant to be two people carrying everything alone. Your spouse is your partner. You are meant to walk through life together, bring your struggles into the light, and ultimately bring them to Jesus.
In this episode, we’ll talk about the pressure to provide and protect, the expectations placed on men, emotional vulnerability, communication, and what it looks like to create a marriage where both husband and wife can be honest about what they’re carrying.
You don’t have to have everything figured out.
You don’t have to carry everything alone.
And you don’t have to hide your struggles from the person you’ve chosen to walk through life with.
Most importantly, we can bring what feels too heavy for us to carry to Jesus.

What happens in a marriage when one spouse feels disrespected and the other feels unloved?
In Session 3 of my marriage series, I’m talking about one of the hardest parts of marriage: what happens when love, respect, communication, and trust begin to break down.
To the husband who feels disrespected: does your wife feel safe enough to make a mistake around you without believing she will be rejected?
And to the wife who feels unloved: when you feel hurt or unseen, do you communicate what you need—or do you attack your husband’s character?
Marriage can become a cycle of hurt when we begin treating our spouse like the enemy instead of remembering that we are on the same team.
Your spouse is not your enemy.
In this episode, we’ll talk about what it looks like to communicate honestly without tearing each other down, to create safety within marriage, and to remember that both husbands and wives need grace, patience, love, and the freedom to make mistakes without fearing rejection.
I’ll also look at what Scripture teaches us about love, communication, patience, kindness, and overcoming evil with good.
Scripture discussed:
Marriage isn’t about winning against your spouse. It’s about learning how to love one another even when you’re hurt, frustrated, disappointed, or struggling to understand each other.

What happens in your marriage when nobody else is around?
From the outside, everything can look fine. You can smile for pictures, show up for family and friends, and give everyone the impression that your marriage is doing well. But what about the conversations no one hears? The tension in the car. The silence before bed. The things you stopped saying because you’re tired of having the same conversation.
In this re-recorded Session 2 of Liz’s marriage series, we’re going beneath the surface of what people see and talking honestly about what can happen when a marriage stops fighting—not because everything is okay, but because one or both people have stopped trying.
We’ll talk about communication, resentment, forgiveness, the condition of our hearts, and the difference between looking like a healthy marriage and actually allowing God to work within your marriage.
Sometimes the question isn’t, “Does my marriage look okay?”
It’s, “What is really happening in my marriage when no one else is watching?”
Liz walks through Scripture and invites us to take an honest look at the places we may be tempted to hide, remembering that God sees what others cannot.
Scripture discussed:
Marriage was never meant to be about protecting a perfect image. It’s about honesty, grace, forgiveness, communication, and being willing to invite God into the places that need His work.

Before the conversations about grief, healing, faith, marriage, mental health, and the seasons of life, there was a story that started it all.
In this episode of Write Over Coffee, I’m sharing the heart behind this podcast and the voices that have quietly influenced my journey — my “silent mentors.” From writers and speakers who helped shape the way I think about grief and healing to the deeply personal experience of losing my dad, this episode is a look at why I felt called to create a space for honest conversations about life, loss, faith, and finding hope again.
This podcast isn’t coming from the perspective of a therapist or psychiatrist. It’s coming from a human perspective — someone who deeply loved her dad and is learning how to live with loss while continuing to grow, heal, and trust God along the way.
If you’ve experienced grief, loss, a difficult season, or simply found yourself trying to figure out what comes next, I hope you’ll feel at home here.
If this conversation resonates with you, subscribe to Write Over Coffee and follow along for more honest conversations about grief, faith, healing, relationships, mental health, and the seasons of life.

What does your marriage look like when no one else is watching?
You can have the perfect picture on Facebook, smile for family and friends, and look like everything is fine from the outside. But what happens in the moments no one sees? The conversations before bed, in the car, while getting ready in the morning, or in the quiet moments when the two of you are finally alone?
In Session 2 of this marriage series, Liz talks honestly about what happens when a marriage stops fighting and starts coexisting. Sometimes the hardest place to recognize trouble is when the arguments stop—not because everything is healed, but because one or both people have stopped trying.
This episode takes a deeper look at communication, resentment, forgiveness, the condition of our hearts, and the things we may be hiding behind the picture we present to everyone else.
What happens when you stop asking, “How does my marriage look?” and start asking, “What is really happening in my marriage?”
Liz walks through Scripture and encourages us to examine what is happening beneath the surface, because God sees what everyone else cannot.
Scripture discussed:
Marriage is not about maintaining a perfect image. It is about being willing to look honestly at what is happening behind closed doors and allowing God to work in the places we may not want anyone else to see.

What does the Bible actually say about submission, respect, and leadership in marriage?
In part one of this new marriage series, Liz takes a closer look at the Scriptures that are often quoted when talking about marriage and submission, and challenges us to stop using God’s Word in ways that He never intended.
Submission is not about losing your voice. Leadership is not about control. And Scripture should never be used to excuse manipulation, intimidation, mistreatment, or abuse.
This episode looks at what biblical marriage is really supposed to reflect: humility, sacrifice, mutual care, truth, and a willingness to put one another before ourselves. Liz walks through several passages of Scripture and encourages us to look at the whole message of the Bible rather than pulling individual verses out of context.
Scripture discussed:
This is part one of Liz’s new marriage series, and it’s an important conversation for anyone who wants to understand marriage through a biblical lens while recognizing the difference between God-honoring leadership and unhealthy control.

What if your exhaustion isn’t a sign of weak faith—but a sign that you’ve been carrying too much for too long?
In this episode, we take a deep dive into 1 Kings 19:1-18, where we find Elijah completely exhausted, discouraged, and ready to give up. Instead of condemning him, God met him with compassion, rest, nourishment, and a gentle reminder that he was not alone.
If you’ve been feeling burned out, overwhelmed, or like you’re failing, this conversation is for you. Sometimes burnout feels like spiritual failure, but maybe you’re not spiritually broken—maybe you’re simply exhausted.
We’ll talk about what biblical self-care really looks like, why God understands our limits, and why you were never meant to carry the weight of fixing everyone around you.
Join us for an encouraging reminder that caring for the soul God gave you isn’t selfish—it’s biblical.

Have you ever felt forgotten by God? Like your prayers are going unanswered, your heart is carrying more than anyone can see, and you’re simply trying to make it through another day?
In this episode, we’re talking about depression, loneliness, and the hope that is found in God’s promises. Even in the darkest seasons, God has not forgotten you. He welcomes the messy version of you—the one that’s hurting, questioning, and barely holding on.
We’ll explore what it means to trust when your feelings tell a different story, because faith knows best in places where sight runs out. Healing doesn’t always happen overnight. Sometimes, healing is simply learning to breathe again, one day at a time, while trusting God to carry you forward.
If you’re feeling unseen, overwhelmed, or weary, this conversation is for you.

The loudest lies we often believe aren’t spoken by others—they’re the ones we whisper to ourselves.
In this episode, we’re talking about mental health, negative self-talk, and what it means to renew our minds with God’s truth instead of believing the lies that tell us we’re not enough, we’ve failed, or we’ll never change.
If you’ve ever smiled on the outside while quietly falling apart on the inside, this conversation is for you. Remember: failure isn’t falling down—failure is refusing to get back up. God’s grace meets us in our weakest moments, and He is faithful to continue the work He started in us.

Life can change in an instant.
In this episode, Dalton shares his powerful testimony of how life took an unexpected turn. Before everything changed, he and his wife were managing a busy restaurant, homeschooling their child, and juggling the demands of everyday life with only Sundays to rest. Then, in April, everything changed overnight.
Through uncertainty, unexpected challenges, and a completely different path than they had planned, Dalton discovered that even when life feels out of control, God remains faithful. His story is a reminder that our hope isn’t found in our circumstances—it’s found in the One who walks with us through them.
If you’re navigating a season that looks nothing like you imagined, this conversation will encourage you to keep trusting God, even when you can’t yet see what He’s doing.
