1988 was the year that WWE first unveiled to the world its Royal Rumble concept (actually it was 1987, but more on that in the episode)- a 30-man (okay, in this case it was actually 20) battle royal style contest with a twist- 2 wrestlers would start in the ring and then every 2 minutes (or 90 seconds, or even 60 seconds some years) a new wrestler would enter until all participants had joined the match. Eliminations would come when a person was thrown over the top rope and both feet hit the floor until there was just one man (or woman, as would later be introduced) left who would go on to headline (or just get put in one of many important matches) at WrestleMania (actually, this wasn't introduced until 1993).
