The event saw Randy Orton win the titular Royal Rumble match in the main event by last eliminating Roman Reigns, making him the seventh multiple Rumble winner. Also, John Cena defeated AJ Styles in the penultimate match to capture his record thirteenth WWE Championship and his sixteenth overall world championship, tying Ric Flair's record.
