That’s the engine behind Peacock’s The Hunting Party, and it’s the kind of premise that instantly raises the question I care about most: can a familiar procedural crime drama formula still surprise us when the hook is big enough?

We talk tone, pacing, and why the show keeps triggering Criminal Minds comparisons, from the profiling setup to the serious, case-driven structure. The twist is the secrecy: the team is forced to work with military power and keep the entire incident out of public view, which flips the normal “issue a warning, ask for tips” playbook. I also get into my biggest critiques, including how Bex is written, the slow-burn start, and how often “capture” starts to feel like “kill,” which undercuts the mystery and the conspiracy thread.
