X Minus One: Audition Episode - And The Moon Be Still As Bright (April 22, 1955)

Listen Later

"And The Moon Be Still As Bright".  Earthmen land on Mars and start to  make a slum out of it. The script was used previously on "Dimension X"  on September 29, 1950 and subsequently rebroadcast on "Monitor" during  December,   The program was pre-empted September 29, 1955. The first  three expeditions to Mars left Earth in a mushroom of flames arched  through the atmosphere and finally dwindled to tiny specks on the big  eye of mount pelimars telescope and then were lost to the eye  altogether. Prearranged landing signals flashed back to Earth and the  radios went dead. One after the other ships had disappeared and were  never heard of again. But still the rockets came. The fourth expedition  emerged from the silent gulfs of faith and angled down towards the  floating red bits of Mars down into orbit as the order came to land.
