「And he said to Zebah and Zalmunna,

　"What kind of men were they whom you killed at Tabor?"

　So they answered, "As you are, so were they;

　each one resembled the son of a king."」　　Amen.

　After winning the battle, Gideon continued to pursue the Midianites. The Midianite army fled across the Jordan River. Gideon, aided by the tribes of Naphtali, Asher, Manasseh, and Ephraim, pursued them as far as Succoth and Penuel, but the inhabitants refused to provide bread for the soldiers. Nevertheless, he continued the pursuit, caught up with them at Karkor, and routed them. It was there that he questioned the two captured kings, Zebah and Zalmunna, as recorded in today's passage. Then Gideon said, “My brothers, my mother's sons! As the Lord lives, if you had spared their lives, I would not have killed you.” And he wept.

『それから、ギデオンはゼバフとツァルムナに言った。

　「おまえたちがタボルで殺した者たちはどんな人たちだったか。」

　彼らは答えた。

　「彼らはあなたによく似ていました。

　どの人も王子のような姿でした。」』

　戦いに勝利したギデオンは、なおもミディアン人を追撃するのです。ミディアン軍は、ヨルダン

川を渡り逃げていきます。ギデオンは、ナフタリ族、アシェル族、マナセ族、エフライム族の助けを得て、スコテとペヌエルまで追跡しますが、住民は、兵にパンを提供する事を拒むのです。しかし、なおも追跡を続け、カルコルで追いつき、敗走させるのです。そこで、捕らえたゼバウと

ツアルムナの二王に尋ねたのが今日の箇所です。そして、ギデオンは言った。「私の兄弟、私の母の息子たちだ。【主】は生きておられる。おまえたちが彼らを生かしておいてくれたなら、私はおまえたちを殺しはしなかったのだが。」と言って、涙ぐむのです。

　今日も、主が生きておられることを実感できますように・・・。　

『12:2 信仰の創始者であり完成者であるイエスから、目を離さないでいなさい。この方は、ご自分の前に置かれた喜びのために、辱めをものともせずに十字架を忍び、神の御座の右に着座されたのです。』

お祈りします。

愛する天のお父様、み名を崇め感謝します。イエス様は、ご自分の前に置かれた喜びのために、辱めをものともせずに十字架を忍び、神の御座の右に着座されました。私たちも先達の信仰者たちに学び、倣うものとなりますようにお導き願います。そして、信仰の創始者であり、完成者なるイエス様に似るものとなりますようにお願いします。今日の礼拝を感謝し、主イエス・キリストのお名前によってお祈り致します。アーメン。

「And when Gideon had come,

　there was a man telling a dream to his companion.

　He said, "I have had a dream: To my surprise,

　a loaf of barley bread tumbled into the camp of Midian;

　it came to a tent and struck it so that it fell

　and overturned, and the tent collapsed."」　　　　Amen.

　The Midianites were as thick as clouds, while Gideon's army numbered thirty-two thousand. Yet God said it was still too many and commanded him to reduce it. It was cut down to ten thousand, and finally to just three hundred. Though God had promised, this seemed far too few. Gideon, filled with anxiety, went to scout near the enemy camp. Today's passage recounts the dream of an enemy soldier witnessed at that time. Gideon gained courage and devised a strategy. His plan succeeded brilliantly, putting the vast enemy army to flight.

May we today also believe completely in the Lord's promise...

『ギデオンがそこに来ると、

　ちょうど一人の者が仲間に夢の話をしていた。

　「聞いてくれ。私は夢を見た。

　見ると、大麦のパンの塊が一つ、

　ミディアン人の陣営に転がって来て、

　天幕に至り、それを打ったので、

　それは崩れ落ちて、ひっくり返った。

　こうして天幕は倒れてしまった。」』

　雲霞の如きミディアン人、それに対してギデオンの軍は3万2千人、神はまだ多いと言って、

減らさせるのです。1万に減り、そして、最終的には300人になったのです。神の約束がある

とはいいながら、あまりにも少なすぎます。ギデオンは、不安に思い、敵陣の近くまで様子を

見に行くのです。その時の敵兵の夢の話が今日の箇所です。ギデオンは勇気をもらい、戦略を

煉るのです。政略は見事に当たり、敵の大軍を敗走させるのです。

　今日も、主の約束の言葉を信じ切ることができますように・・・。

「Then the Lord turned to him and said,

　 "Go in this might of yours,

　and you shall save Israel from the hand of the Midianites.

　Have I not sent you?"」　　　 Amen.

　This is the scene of Gideon's calling as a judge. When Israel was suffering under the oppressive rule of Midian, the Lord called out to a young, weak man, saying, “You are a mighty warrior.” And He said, “Go in the strength you have.”

pTo the hesitant Gideon, God showed a sign twice. Then He encouraged him, saying, "Be at peace. Do not be afraid. You will not die." Thus, Gideon grew into his role as a judge.

May we walk with the Lord today as well...

『すると、【主】は彼の方を向いて言われた。

　「行け、あなたのその力で。

　あなたはイスラエルをミディアン人の手から救うのだ。

　わたしがあなたを遣わすのではないか。」』

　士師ギデオンの召命の場面です。イスラエルがミデヤンの圧政に苦しんでいた時に、一人の若くて弱い男性に、主が、「勇士よ」と声をかけたのです。そして、「あなたのその力で行け」と、

語るのです。逡巡するギデオンに神は二度もしるしを見せました。それから、「安心せよ。恐れるな。あなたは死なない」と励ますのです。そうして、士師としてギデオンは育っていくのです。

　今日も、主と共に歩むことができますように・・・。　

「"Thus let all Your enemies perish,

　O Lord!But let those who love Him be like

　the sunWhen it comes out in full strength."

　So the land had rest for forty years.」　　　　Amen.

　This is Deborah's song. The victory song over Sisera's army is sung with a high, triumphant tone and heroic words. What makes the prophetess Deborah truly feminine is that she also sings of the feelings of Sisera's mother. Yet, in the end, she powerfully sings, “May those who love the Lord be like the rising sun in its strength.” No matter how dark this world may be, Jesus shines as the Sun of Righteousness.

　これは、デボラの歌です。シセラ軍を撃破した凱歌は高く、その調子も勇壮な言葉で歌われ

ています。女預言者デボラが女性らしいのは、敵将シセラの母親の気持ちも歌っているのです。

しかし、最後は、「主を愛する者が、力強く昇る太陽のようになりますように。」と、力強く

歌いあげています。この世の中が、どんなに暗くても、イエス様は義の太陽として輝いてるの

です。

　今日も、主の平安がありますように・・・。

「So she said,

　"I will surely go with you;

　nevertheless there will be no glory

　for you in the journey you are taking,

　for the Lord will sell Sisera into the hand of a woman."

　Then Deborah arose and went with Barak to Kedesh.」　　　Amen.　

　When the judge Ehud died, the people again did evil and suffered for twenty years under Jabin, who ruled in Hazor.Then the judge raised up was the prophetess Deborah. She summoned Barak and conveyed God's command to confront Sisera, Jabin's general. But Barak clung to Deborah. In the end, he had to hand over the head of the enemy commander Sisera to a woman. Whether to rely on God or on man—Barack, who relied on man, missed his chance for glory.
