I felt up to my elbows
In the work of the universe,
all without knowing
what I was doing,
as if fulfilling some purpose
beyond my own intent,
so that my most
unconscious act
fitted smoothly
into some universal event;
was part
of some giant gesture
in which the slightest motion
of my mind or heart
took unwitting part.
Isolation slid
off my shoulders.
My private breath
was such a public
portion of the universe;
that I felt it fill out sails
in ships skimming
the Mediterranean,
while I stood
continents away,
Alone and small
by my kitchen door.

彷彿成就了某個目的
只在我的不經意間，
於是那最
無意識的舉動
與某個宇宙事件
契合無間；
是某個龐然手勢
