All my life people told me or looked at me like I was stupid. Teachers, friends, anyone. Since I was young, I’ve had a super goofy personality, so I only had one friend who took me seriously and thought I was “smart.” I would always say what I was thinking and let the true me show, so people misjudged me or disregarded me. 


The smartest people I’ve known have also been called dumb their whole life or been the butt of the joke. So remember that when the world laughs at you, God is smiling down at you. 


My APUSH teacher told me the teachers would gossip and laugh at me in the teacher’s lounge because of the unique questions I asked her. 


If I wasn’t raised in Cheshire, CT where the admin is lenient and helped even the biggest slackers not drop out or fail out, I probably wouldn’t have graduated high school. Teachers held an intervention meeting for me where they said that they didn’t know how I could do well in their AP/competitive classes when: (1) I asked such “obvious” questions that held the class back and (2) was often missing or out of my seat. I could not sit still in class without being miserable—such severe ADHD, so I was absent or tardy half of sophomore year and senior year. So the VP called me into her office and said if I missed one more day I wouldn’t graduate.


I’ve always been the same silly person even to this day, but I’ve only gotten respect once I started law school: which is nuts to me—I am the same person I’ve always been, but only am praised now due to a degree. Typically the people in your home town aren’t able to recognize the real you. Once I left CT, I wasn’t the same “laughing stock” anymore. If this is your experience, I recommend moving out of state, even if just for a year 


So this is a message to anyone that isn’t taken seriously by others or thinks they aren’t smart enough to go to med school or law school. Anyone is smart enough to succeed in their true calling. My journey into law school has come with hundreds of failures. You can fall down; you just have to keep going anyway.
