“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder”, that age old adage, while comforting, is only half-true. Yes, true beauty is most certainly in the eye of the beholder but the standard of beauty is in the scepter of the monarch. We have been under the rule of Western standards of beauty for thousands of years, and while the tide is changing, in the fight between beauty and profit, will beauty ever win?

The leaves turning amber tells us the harvest is near, a grumpy cloud lets you know you better wrap your picnic up, and the incessant sniffling, sneezing, and wheezing from pollen reminds you that summer couldn’t get here any quicker. The world around us has always gently communicated with us to keep us on course, but as we steer further and further from nature’s path, we are becoming less able to decipher her warnings. Warnings that have grown bigger, stronger, and even more widespread.
