Yanks Abroad

Weston McKennie is in outstanding form for Juventus, thriving in a new role as their starting right wingback, and it may have major implications for the USMNT under Mauricio Pochettino. In this episode of Yanks Abroad, I break down why McKennie’s recent performances have been so effective, how this role plays to his strengths, and whether it can help energize and solve problems for the USMNT moving forward.

I also dive into Johnny Cardoso’s impressive form at Atlético Madrid, where he has stepped into the midfield in place of Conor Gallagher and quickly established himself with his composure, defensive reliability, and tactical awareness.

With both players excelling in evolving club roles, this video explores what their form means for their responsibilities, fit, and importance within the USMNT squad.

Mauricio Pochettino has unlocked a new fire and desire in this pool of USMNT players; fighting for the badge, winning in style, and having flexibility in tactical approach. A star was born in Alex Freeman tonight, as the United States embarrassed Uruguay off the pitch.

I break down Sergiño Dest’s versatile role for PSV — and how his ability to play across multiple positions perfectly fits what Mauricio Pochettino wants from his USMNT fullbacks. From buildup to final third creativity, Dest continues to prove he’s the team’s ultimate Swiss Army knife.

I also take a closer look at Noahkai Banks’ latest performance for Augsburg, examining why he might not yet be ready for a World Cup–level call-up — but why his long-term upside remains sky-high.

Plus, a full Americans Abroad recap: injury updates on Christian Pulisic, Johnny Cardoso, and Malik Tillman, a look at Folarin Balogun’s latest goal, and more from another busy weekend for USMNT players across Europe.

Haji Wright and Cristian Roldan POWER Mauricio Pochettino's USMNT past Australia to finish off the manager's best camp since taking the reins. The tactical changes and inclusion of some new personnel have left difficult questions to answer for the U.S.A.'s manager.

The USMNT DOMINATED Ecuador, although only came away with a draw. In what was Mauricio Pochettino's most impressive match in charge of the United States, our players controlled the game with confidence. The combination of Folarin Balogun, Malik Tillman, and Tanner Tessmann led the the line in a battle of control, patience, and footballing IQ.
