Yasuke was an African samurai who served under the Japanese warlord Oda Nobunaga in the late 16th century. Originally brought to Japan by Jesuit missionaries, Yasuke's impressive stature and physical strength caught Nobunaga's attention, leading to his induction into the samurai class—a rare honor for a foreigner.
