Following Moshe Rabeinu's death, Yehoshua is tasked by Hashem with 3 tasks:1. To guide the young Jewish nation, still mourning the passing of its greatest leader until today, into a land filled with enemies. 2. To keep the Torah and its commandments3. To divide the conquered land of Israel between the tribes of the Jewish nation. In all three of these commands, Hashem uses the term "חזק ואמץ" - Be strong and be courageous. What does this imply? Yehoshua himself is at a loss. He never swayed from Hashem's path up until this point, but he had Moshe's guidance to thank for that. He looked up to Moshe for everything! The Torah testifies that Yehoshua never left Moshe's side! And now, how can he assume the role of his deceased leader? Will he be able to assume the position of Moshe successfully? How will the Jewish nation respond to its new leader? What about the tribes that already had their land and could settle, would they help the rest of the nation as they promised Moshe, or will they rile up to their new leader?
