Years ago, Evangelist Charles Finney had just finished a big outreach in Detroit when a man approached him and asked Charles to follow him. Charles followed this man down an alley and into the back door of an old building. When they got inside, the man pulled out a revolver from his back pocket. He looked at Charles and said, “Do you see this? This revolver has killed four people. Is there still hope for me?” Charles looked at the man and said, “The blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sin.” The man couldn’t believe it. Then he said, “I also own a saloon… and I’ve sold every kind of substance to every kind of person. Is there still hope for me?” Again, Charles repeated the message from his sermon. “The blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sin.” The man continued sharing his dark past, and each time, Charles said, “The blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sin.” The next night, that man and his entire family showed up at the next evangelistic outreach, and he surrendered publicly to Jesus Christ.
I love this story, because it’s a reminder that no sin is too bad to hinder God from loving you. The Bible says in 1 John 1:7. “But if we walk in the light as He Himself is in the light…the blood of Jesus Christ purifies us from all sin.” If you have yet to receive Jesus Christ into your heart, I cannot urge you enough to do so today. Let Jesus give you forgiveness and a new life.
