Yet another bag of AliExpress joy - mainly modules

Listen Later

Another Santa-sack of technical goodies from AliExpress for us to explore.

Since making this video the aroma oils for all the diffuser products arrived together in separate bags. They mostly had an ingredient label added for a water based beauty product implying that the main ingredients were water and propylene glycol. That's probably to circumvent frustrating postal regulations where anything even remotely flammable is not allowed in the post. That includes lots of innocent things like AirWick air fresheners, tiny vials of designer perfume, bottles of whisky and many common technical servicing products like contact cleaner.

Here are some links to the items on AliExpress (not a sponsor).
These are affiliate links, but that will not affect the price you pay.

Some listings may not work for some countries and some may just be sold out or disappear.

The heat shrink and hot air pen:-

Cost about £6.

The square ultrasonic aroma diffuser unit (aroma is ordered separately and may ship slower:-

About £4 for the atomiser and £2 for an oil refill. Note that the aroma is not strong, but once you have the bottle you can experiment with other locally available aroma liquids.

Touch sensor module for lights:-

Cost guide £1.40.

The temperature control module. I've since made a video about it and it has surprising functionality despite being stripped to the minimum of components. It can be used for heating or cooling and has lots of useful parameters including calibration of the sensor, adjustable hysteresis and an optional time delay to protect compressors against starting under pressure:-

Cost guide £2.

Touch sensor with battery charging capability - both versions:-
https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_c3zNyugv
Cost guide £1.

Fibre optic hand sensing starfield module. I got refunded for this and have since ordered the bare control module on its own to complete the set:-
https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_c4XnN6BB
Cost guide £3 for a set.

Cascadable power touch sensor for under illuminated tables:-
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005009766905141.html
Cost guide £1.30.

Tiny doppler/microwave movement detector:-
https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_c3bprYff
Cost guide £1.

When the bottles of aroma oil arrived, one was presented as being a larger bottle of pro-grade aroma, emulating the smell of the Weston hotel's signature white tea aroma. It is far too strong for my place at even the lowest setting, and has a dominant aroma of bergamot.
