Scripture:
“Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines… yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation.” — Habakkuk 3:17–18
It’s possible to have everything — and feel like you have nothing.
And it’s possible to have nothing — and still overflow with gratitude.
In this episode of Digging Another Well, we explore the difference between happiness and biblical joy. Happiness rises and falls with circumstances. Joy, however, is rooted in something deeper — the unchanging character of God.
Habakkuk didn’t ignore hardship. He named it plainly: failing crops, empty fields, vanished livestock. Real loss. Real instability. And yet he declared, “Yet I will rejoice in the LORD.”
Joy is not denial. It is confidence.
Not in outcomes — but in who God is.
If your “fig tree” isn’t blossoming right now… if plans have unraveled or expectations have shifted… this devotional reminds us that joy does not require perfect circumstances. It requires trust in the One who remains steady when everything else feels uncertain.
