= to help reach an agreement between two arguing groups, 調停する

"V for Vendetta"
= a 2006 political thriller

Guy Fawkes
= a man, living at the time of Ieyasu Tokugawa, who tried to kill the British king. Today, Guy Fawkes Night is a fun little holiday in early November, featuring a bonfire and/or fireworks.

= the British part of government which makes laws

= a revolutionary guy, a radical

to overthrow (a government) = (政府を)倒す

= a 1993 sports film

= related to Jamaica, a Caribbean island

= The Winter Olympics sport

= the event which was in central Canada in 1988

"Freedom Writers"
= a 2007 drama

= the constantly poor area of LA

to be fresh out of
= to have just graduated from

to go to court
= to get taken to court, 裁判沙汰になる

to skip (school or classes)
= サボる

a diary
= a journal, 日記

a gang
= a group of people (usually involved in crime or bad behavior)

to be portrayed
= to be described in a certain way

a motivational speaker
= a person who tries to motivate others, such as a famous athlete, or a successful businessman, or (in this case) a person who had a terrible life but became a winner

"Interstellar"
= a 2014 science fiction movie

= a group of explorers

= a (perhaps) possible shortcut to faraway places in the universe

= a contest between music bands, with the winner usually decided by the audience reaction

= a 2008 Batman action film

Heath Ledger
= a young Australian actor who suddenly died a few months after making the movie

Christian Bale
= a British actor who also starred in the 2012 movie "The Dark Knight Rises"

"I haven't gotten around to it"
= I haven't had a chance/ opportunity"

"Batman Begins"
= a 2005 film

the Joker
= the bad guy in the movie

to wreak havoc
= to cause a huge number of problems
