Columbia University has one of the oldest and richest Yiddish programs in the United States. The major was reinstated at Columbia in 2003, with two seniors graduating with Yiddish degrees that year. Today, Yiddish at Columbia has flourished. Khaya Himmelman finds out how the study of a language that many would classify as “dying” is thriving on Columbia’s campus.
